Major League Soccer announced today that Crew standouts Guillermo Barros Schelotto and Chad Marshall have been selected to the First XI squad for the 2010 AT&T MLS All-Star Game. This is the second career All-Star First XI selection for both Schelotto and Marshall. Congrats guys!
Crew goalkeeeper William Hesmer was voted Player of the Decade in a “Best of the Decade” contest run by the Wilson (N.C.) Times newspaper and Thomas Drug Store. You can read Paul Durham’s article in the Wilson Times for the amazing details of Hesmer’s multi-talented high school soccer/football/basketball/baseball career.
But there is NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING more amazing that this, which is something I never knew about William……
He was named to the All-State soccer team as both a junior and a senior. Makes sense for a future professional goalpkeeper, right? Right…..except for the fact that in his junior year, he was named All-State as a MIDFIELDER!
There’s hopefully more to come in the Crew-Revs Notebook, but for now, read Mr. Durham’s article for a recap of an incredible high school career, plus quotes from Hesmer himself. And a big thank you to Mr. Durham and the Wilson Times for graciously agreeing to move this article from the pay section of their site to a publicly available section so that Crew fans could enjoy it. If any of you happen to visit or pass through the Wilson area, please buy a newspaper from these nice people.
As most of you know, Crew defender Jed Zayner has established quite a presence on these here interwebs, thanks to his wonderful charity, Filleo, and his entertaining blog Live to Love, Love to Live. Jed dropped us a quick note recently to let us know that he is currently holding an Ebay online auction of autographed Crew merchandise and we wanted to be sure to pass the info along. The auction will benefit both American children and children around the world through the purchasing of school supplies, rebuilding of schools/homes, and clothing.
So when you get a moment, please go check out the auction and support a member of the Crew family in his efforts to make a difference in our community. Thanks!

The Columbus Crew’s Eddie Gaven, Chad Marshall and Robbie Rogers were all named by U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Bob Bradley to the 30-player training camp roster that will gather Jan. 4 at U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
The annual camp held in January for players in their offseason is a largely domestic-based group that includes 25 players who ply their trade in the United States. Major League Soccer – and the Crew, in particular – is well represented, with 13 of 16 clubs contributing players to the Carson camp. The Black & Gold is one of only four MLS clubs to have three or more of its players named to the roster.
