Schelotto Collects Another POTW Award
Posted by: Crew Communications // Category: Player News
The hits just keep on coming for Crew playmaker Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who has been voted the MLS Player of the Week for Week 24 after his one goal, two assist masterpiece against New England last Saturday (Sept. 6). Schelotto’s performance helpedĀ improve the Crew to 13-6-4 (43 points) on the season and, giving themĀ a five-point lead atop the Eastern Conference. The Award is Schelotto’s fourth Player of the Week award of 2008 (Weeks 3, 17 & 22), after earning the honor twice in 2007. With 18 assists on the season, Schelotto continues to build on his Crew single-season assist record, which he eclipsed on Aug. 30 against FC Dallas. Schelotto now has two assists in each of the Crew’s last four games, all wins, making him only the second MLS player (Marco Etcheverry - 1996) to have four consecutive multiple assist games. With seven games still to play in the regular season, Schelotto’s total of 18 assists to date is tied for the third most ever by an MLS player in a single season. Schelotto leads MLS in assists this season by a wide margin, as his next closest competitor, Javier Morales of Salt Lake, currently has 10 helpers on the campaign. The Crew is now riding a four-game winning streak heading into its rivalry match-up with Toronto FC this Saturday (Sept. 13) and much of that success has come from the feet of Schelotto, who has had a hand in ten of the eleven goals scored by the Crew during the streak (2 goals, 8 assists).
