Crew Undefeated

Wow.  Just when you thought the best couldn’t get any better, the Crew return home from a two-game road trip undefeated!  The team should feel very proud of their performance.  The Crew’s bench stepped up when called upon for the 3-1 win in New York.  Their game against the Red Bulls was a statement game.  That statement was “we’re here to stay, we are not going anywhere and neither are our fans!”

I had a prideful moment when I saw the Nor-On-Tour, making their presence felt in Red Bull Arena!  I was watching the game with my friend, who said, ” New York fans sound like Columbus fans.”  I stood tall and said, “Oh…No, my friend, those are OUR fans!”  A lighting bolt flashed in the background and it was awesome!  (Totally kidding about the lighting but it just felt like an epic moment and a lighting bolt was needed for the full effect.)

Speaking of epic, can we talk about Emilio Renteria’s post-goal dance moves!  He definitely gives Chad Ochocinco a run for his money.  What a huge road trip this was for Renteria!  On Thursday, he scored his first goal in league play only to follow with the lone goal in Sunday’s win over K.C.!  This was a road trip to remember… Let’s take a moment to relish these memories, shall we?

The Crew had their first road victory of the season in their first match in the new Red Bull Arena.  This broke a 0-8-3 road record for Columbus in New York.

As previously mentioned, Emilio had his first MLS goal quickly followed by his second.

As a result of the win in NYC the Black & Gold are first in the East.  You still with me? OK, good, let’s continue.

With the win in K.C., the hard-working William Hesmer has become the franchise leader in shutouts.

Which brings me to the icing on this Columbus Crew cake… drum roll please… the Crew are now off to the best start in franchise history.  I could get used to this!

Luckily, this team is nothing but humble, hard working and focused.  They will enjoy this recent success but can’t wait to get re-focused for the upcoming opponents.

This was a fantastic weekend for sports!  Not only with the Crew dominating on the pitch but the NHL and NBA Conference finals are well underway.  Across the pond, Jose Mourinho had his team, Inter Milan, dialed in for their 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.  Rumor has it that Mourinho is on the move.   Will he be the new head coach of Real Madrid?  I won’t believe it until I hear it from the man himself!

Here is something I do believe, the Crew will be ready to rock this Saturday at home as we Black Out the LA Galaxy!!  As the host for the Crew, I will be ready to rock too.  I was thinking of channeling my inner Gene Simmions, KISS circa 1973 with some black and gold face paint… Too much?

Well, Crew Soccer Nation I am signing off.  Be sure to check out the video section of the web page for the Black & Gold Breakdown where I will be previewing the upcoming Galaxy match.  If you don’t already have your tickets, then what are you waiting for?!  Your Columbus Crew and the LA Galaxy are the only two undefeated team in MLS, right now and the Crew needs all your support to remain undefeated.

Until next time, I’ll see you on the pitch (sans face paint!)
