Crew Juniors U19s advance to National Finals
Posted by: Crew Communications // Category: General NewsThe Crew Juniors U19s advanced to the Final of the US Youth Soccer U19 National Championships with a 1-1 draw vs. FC Delco Hammerheads Friday afternoon in St. Louis. Saturday’s James P. McGuire Cup Championship Final will be a rematch between the same two teams, which were the top two finishers in the round-robin, four-team preliminary round. FC Delco finished with 7 points (2-0-1) and the Crew finished with 5 (1-0-2).
The Final will be televised live nationally on FOX Soccer Channel in high defininition - the first youth soccer game ever broadcast in HD - with pregame coverage starting at 8:30 p.m. ET leading up to a 9 p.m. kickoff. Brad Porter and Sasha Victorine will call all the action. The broadcast falls on the 75th anniversary of the McGuire Cup, the oldest and most storied cup in youth sport.
“You can’t have a better stage. It’s the 75th anniversary of the McGuire Cup, you’ve got a great venue, you’ve got a primetime game on Fox Soccer Channel, you’re going to play in the evening when the weather is cooler. So all the elements are there for a cracking game and I think you’re going to have two teams battling it out in an entertaining game,” said Crew technical director and U19 coach Brian Bliss.
