The Crew announced today that it has re-signed Argentine legend Guillermo Barros Schelotto
Since joining the Crew in 2007 from storied Argentine club Boca Juniors, Schelotto has been one of the finest attacking players in the league, earning both league and MLS Cup MVP honors, along with two MLS Best XI selections, while accumulating 26 goals and 39 assists in 78 regular-season and playoff games.
A native of La Plate, Argentina, the 36-year-old Schelotto was the Crew’s 2009 Budweiser Golden Boot winner with 12 goals, a haul that included three multi-goal games and three game-winning goals. He was named MLS Player of the Week on June 15, MLS Player of the Month for June, and was an 2009 MLS All-Star First XI selection. Schelotto’s exploits helped lead the Crew to a second consecutive MLS Supporters’ Shield, with a 13-7-10 record (49 pts.), and into the quarterfinals of the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League tournament.

Reigning Volkswagen Most Valuable Player and this season’s leading scorer, Guillermo Barros Schelotto - who led all players in combined voting - and reigning MLS Defender of the Year, Chad Marshall, were among those unveiled as the MLS All-Star First XI on Monday (July 13). Good morning Crew fans, we’ve got a few news and notes we’d like to pass on before this Saturday’s Independence Day match against DC United.
First off, we’d like to offer our congratulationsto Argentine maestro Guillermo Barros Schelotto who was announced yesterday as the MLS Player of the Month for June. Schelotto has continued to power the Crew attack this season as his 10 goals and three assists have earned him a hand in 13 of the Crew’s 21 goals this season. Congratulations Guille!
Next, we want to be sure to let all you U.S. Soccer fans out there know that the U.S. vs. Grenada match will be televised live in Crew Stadium’s Stadium Club at 9 p.m. ET following the Crew’s match vs. DC United Saturday night. As a result, the Stadium Club will extend its regular postgame hours to accomodate those wishing to stay and watch the Red, White and Blue take on Grenada.
And finally… do you have a Bluetooth-enabled phone? Well if you do, be sure to have your phone’s Bluetooth signal turned on when you enter Crew Stadium Saturday. Those with Bluetooth enabled will receive a special ticket offer message as they enter the stadium which can only be redeemed during Saturday’s match, so be sure to take advantage!

In the final match of its England preseason trip, the Crew defeated the Liverpool FC reserve squad, 2-0, Thursday (March 5) at the Reds’ academy site in Knowsley. Alejandro Moreno and Guillermo Barros Schelotto each tallied for the Black & Gold in the second half, ensuring that the Crew went undefeated during its UK excursion. Major League Soccer announced today that Crew midfield maestro Guillermo Barros Schelotto has been voted the 2008 MLS Volkswagen Most Valuable Player. Guille becomes the first player in Crew history to win the prestigious league MVP award, after earning the most votes in polling of MLS players, general managers, coaches, and members of the media.
